WCW: Serena Williams

It’s difficult to imagine a more impressive athlete and human being than Serena Williams. Whether she’s admired for the way she dominates on the court or her advocacy for women’s rights, Williams is a force to be reckoned with. In honor of her 22nd Grand Slam title, we’ve picked our top three reasons Serena should be everyone woman crush.   [caption id="attachment_489" align="alignnone" width="599"]Serena Williams Instagram From @serenawilliams Instagram[/caption] 1. She is literally The Best at tennis. Serena Williams has consistently been ranked as the No. 1 worldwide in women’s tennis since 2002 and is largely considered as the greatest female tennis player of all time. The history-making Williams went pro at the age of 14 and almost 20 years later is the only tennis player to win singles titles six times in three out of four Grand Slams.   serena williams 2. Feminist Icon At a recent press conference on day 11 of Wimbledon, Serena was asked by a reporter “There will be talk about you going down as one of the greatest female athletes of all time. What do you think when you hear someone talk like that?” to which she gave a short and decisive response: “I prefer the word ‘one of the greatest athletes of all time.” She’s outspoken on issues such as equal pay for female tennis players and an advocate for women’s self-confidence and self-love (especially in sports).   Seren 3. Off court Serena Even people who do not follow the world of tennis, will still know who Serena Williams is. Her reach and influence can be felt in pop-culture and in the fashion world respectively. She’s had numerous ventures and collaborations, including sports giant Nike, and was the first black female athlete to be solo on the cover of Vogue. Her documentary “Serena” recently premiered and not long before that she was featured in Beyonce’s “Lemonade” HBO special film.   There is still so much more about Serena that makes her a truly incredible human being, athlete, and woman, but we don’t need anymore convincing.
